Pflugerville, TX dental professional describes the procedure for obtaining porcelain crowns

In Pflugerville, Tx Area Dental Professional Describes the Procedure for Obtaining Porcelain Crowns

Dental crowns are a typical restoration used in all areas of dentistry, including general and cosmetic dentistry. Dr. Jordan Tucker and his team at Elite Smiles of Pflugerville provide dental crowns in a variety of situations. These porcelain restorations require a clear-cut procedure from start to finish to create and place dental crowns.

When might a patient need a dental crown?

Dental crowns are one of many restorations that can be used in repairing the appearance of the smile and improving oral health. The crown is a cap that fits over a natural tooth or an abutment of a dental implant to replace missing teeth, strengthen tooth structure, or improve the aesthetics of the smile. Situations, where a dental crown may be needed, include:

  • Following root canal therapy, when a tooth’s structure may be weakened
  • After a large dental filling has been placed, to offer an extra layer of strength and protection
  • When a tooth is being replaced with a dental implant
  • To cover a tooth that has a cosmetic issue or problems such as breakage

Understanding the process of placing dental crowns

Dr. Jordan Tucker evaluates patients to determine if they could benefit from dental crowns. Once it has been determined that a dental crown would be beneficial for the patient, the dentist will begin the preparations. When a dental crown is covering a natural tooth, significant amounts of dental enamel are removed from all sides. Impressions are completed and sent to a laboratory where the final dental crown is fabricated. A temporary crown is bonded in place and detached when patients come back for the finishing of their crown placement.
